LGA is the best airport to fly into when heading to NYC, it_s the closest and the cheapest to transfer to NYC. I usually use the NYC Airport Shuttle- its $12.50 one way, can't beat that and they go every 30 minutes. If you heading to a midtown hotel get off at the Grand Central Station stop and take the free transfer shuttle to your hotel. Door to door should be around 30-40 minutes. If you are flying out of LGA I have found that I only need to go 1 hour before my flight- there's hardly any walking to your gate because of the airport size, the only wait is going through security. Dont get hung up on the airport decor, it needs a huge overhaul, especially Terminal B.
